3 Things To Help You Stay On Brand With Your Headshot

Whether you’ve been in the game for a while or you’re just setting up your first LinkedIn account, it’s critical to use a professional headshot. It only takes one-tenth of a second for someone to form a first impression of you by your face alone.

But it isn’t enough to have your own professional headshot. Your headshot also needs to match your brand.

What Does It Mean To Match My Brand?
The quality and style of your headshot say a lot about you as a person. This is true whether your photo is for your social media platform or your business’s website.

What you wear, how you look, and where the photo is taken tells viewers how you conduct your business. For instance, an indoor shot in a blazer or suit says something very different than an outdoor shot in a t-shirt.

3 Things To Keep In Mind Before Your Photo Shoot
Your headshot is like a logo for yourself. It’s a branding decision no matter which industry you’re going into.

So, before you head out for your next professional photo shoot, keep these three things in mind.

  1. Make sure your headshots are up-to-date
If you’ve had headshots done in the past, you may not think you need them again. But what happens when you meet with a client and you’re 20 years older than you are in your headshot? You want to maintain as recent a headshot as possible. Don’t wait longer than three to four years.
  2. Use good posture
Your cousin may not be able to spot your bad posture when they’re taking your headshot with a smartphone. But a professional photographer can spot it immediately and guide you into your best pose and head position. Look confident and trust your photographer.
  3. Look up at the camera
This may seem obvious. But many people look at the person taking their photo instead of the camera. Make sure you’re looking directly into the camera so it’s as if you’re looking at your client.
