Wardrobe & Look5 answers

Stick to solid colors. Navy, charcoal, black, white, and jewel tones photograph best across skin tones. Bring 2 to 3 options. Skip busy patterns, thin stripes, and brand-new outfits you haven't worn before.
LinkedIn crops to a square so neckline matters more than full outfit. Solid jewel tones, dressed to your industry's standard, no logos or busy patterns. Full LinkedIn guide.
Most clients style themselves. We can recommend a local stylist if you'd like one on-site. They book separately.
Yes, but at least 1 to 2 weeks before, not day-of. Brand-new cuts often photograph awkwardly while you're still adjusting to them.
Yes, with caveats. Anti-reflective coating helps. We can shoot with and without to give you both options.

AI vs Real Photography3 answers

No. AI generates a plausible version of your face against a rendered backdrop. A real photographer directs posing, lighting, and expression in real time and captures you in a real studio. Read the full comparison.
Yes. We surveyed 22 hiring managers in 2026 and 17 of 22 said they could tell within 3 seconds. Read the survey results.
LinkedIn is the highest-stakes context for a headshot. Recruiters pattern-match AI photos to "shortcut." The cost-per-year math doesn't justify the risk.

Team & Group Sessions4 answers

Yes. If half your team already has headshots, we can match the lighting, crop, and color treatment so the new shots blend in cleanly.
Remote employees can come to the Fort Myers studio for individual sessions and we'll match the team look. Virtual headshots are also an option for fully remote teams.

Concepts referenced across our FAQs

Three concepts that come up most in client questions — linked to canonical references.

Headshot

A tightly framed portrait focused on the face, shoulders, and expression. Used for LinkedIn profiles, company about pages, press kits, and any context where a single image stands in for the person.

Photo retouching

Post-production work that cleans up skin, color, stray hair, wardrobe wrinkles, and background imperfections without changing the subject's identity. Every selected image from a JA Headshots session includes professional retouching at no extra cost.

Three-point lighting

A standard portrait lighting setup that uses a key light, a fill light, and a backlight to shape the subject and separate them from the background. It is the foundation of most studio headshots because it produces a flattering, dimensional look without harsh shadows.
